Boston Business Journal Calls out NC as a Life Science Hub
“In addition to longstanding rivals like California, other states including North Carolina and Texas have recently gained attention as life sciences hubs.”
The mention comes from a recent article in the Boston Business Journal citing new, emerging life science hubs over the long-time front runner, Massachusetts. Due to shifts in the U.S. economy, tariff implications, NIH cuts, and FDA layoffs, it appears several other states are stepping up in a major way.
“North Carolina has been investing in biotech for decades, creating the North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech) in 1984. NCBiotech’s president and CEO Doug Edgeton called it the nation’s first state-sponsored initiative in biotechnology development.”
Additionally, RED director Kyle Touchstone was quoted touting talent as one of the main reasons NC is a thriving hub.
“The intellect is here, and the space was here for the biomanufacturing to really take off in this area,” said Kyle Touchstone, director of Raleigh economic development.”
