The Stanley Cup is Back in Raleigh

The Carolina Hurricanes are back on top. On Sunday, June 14, the Canes won back The Cup after taking the Vegas Golden Knights in six games. Since 2006, the organization has gone through many changes, as has the city of Raleigh.

Kyle Touchstone, director of Economic Development for the City of Raleigh, told Carolina Journal that “Raleigh went from being a state capital, state university town, to being an economic powerhouse.” Touchstone continued, saying, “Last year, we were ranked the best-performing large city in the United States by the Milken Institute.”

The Hurricanes ended the playoff drought in 2019 and have made the playoffs every year since. The dominance brought a new generation of Hurricanes fans, along with new fans who have moved to the state since the team won the Stanley Cup in 2006. And given the surge in Raleigh and the region’s population, we can thank the Canes for contributing to the overall quality of life in Raleigh, providing entertainment, boosting the local economy, and unifying a fan base.
