Thrillist set out to compile a list of American cities where "writers, musicians, illustrators, makers, and tinkerers of all stripes can create and reside comfortably." They looked at many factors including access to nature, food and beverage scene, art, music and general affordability.

To determine where American’s can feel most secure, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 44 key indicators of safety.
